The Ateneo Human Rights Center (AHRC) invites campus journalists nationwide to join the “Rights in Focus: Human Rights in Campus Journalism Summit 2025” on Dec. 6 at the Ateneo Professional Schools, Makati City.

This summit’s core mission is to promote ethical and human rights-based reporting and equip campus journalists with the tools and frameworks to integrate human rights principles into their journalistic practice.

The AHRC has partnered with different campus journalism organizations such as the Benildean Press Corps of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, The Advocate of the Far Eastern University (FEU), The Philippine Collegian of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, Tinig ng Plaridel of the UP College of Media and Communication, The Bedan of the San Beda University, The Guidon of the Ateneo de Manila University, and The Lasallian of the De La Salle University.

On Nov. 13, the AHRC revealed one of the keynote speakers for its event, the award-winning journalist and 2025 Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service Awardee, Jamela Alindogan. She is also notable for her coverage in conflict zones from the Philippines to other areas in Southeast Asia and her 18-year experience as a correspondent of Al Jazeera English. Meanwhile, other speakers for the event will be revealed in the coming days.

Moreover, the event will feature workshops covering trauma-informed reporting, online safety protocols, and fact-checking in the digital age to avoid disinformation. The summit will also have the ceremonial launch of the specialized Human Rights Primer for Campus Journalists developed by the Project Human Rights (HR) Lens team of the AHRC.

The Ateneo Human Rights Center (AHRC) defines itself as a “university-based institution engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights in the Philippines.” Through workshops, publications, and partnership with other universities and campus press, AHRC aims to foster human rights, social justice, and responsible reporting, actively contributing to initiatives like the Rights in Focus Summit 2025.
