The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Lady Blazers won two in a row after defeating the Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL) Lady Knights, 3-1, today, Aug. 12, at the Paco Arena in Manila City.
The reigning NCAA queens showcased their championship moves in the first two sets by breezing past their rivals in the past two seasons, both 25-15.
However, the Lady Knights, now under the leadership of Finnish coach Aleksi Lahteenimaki, were eager to open their V-League campaign on a high note. Gia Maquilang and Verenicce Colendra took advantage of the error-plagued Taft squad to stretch out the match, 20-25.
However, Zam Nolasco, Chenae Basarte, and Rhea Densing provided a steady presence for the Lady Blazers to turn the tide of the game in their favor. Nolasco delivered the final blow to close out the game in four sets, 25-20.
Nolasco showcased her star quality with 20 points on 12 attacks and 8 blocks.
The Lady Blazers will face the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Lady Eagles next on Aug. 16 at the same venue with a live telecast on V-League’s official website, Facebook, and YouTube pages.
